This week I actually have something special to write about!
In my study this weekend I read some amazing promises and
stories from the prophets about the Book of Mormon. President Nelson said this
My dear brothers and sisters, I promise that as you
prayerfully study the Book of Mormon every day, you will make better
decisions—every day. I promise that as you ponder what you study, the windows
of heaven will open, and you will receive answers to your own questions and
direction for your own life. I promise that as you daily immerse yourself in
the Book of Mormon, you can be immunized against the evils of the day, even the
gripping plague of pornography and other mind-numbing addictions.
And President Hinckley told of a story of a young women
addicted to smoking. She asked her boss if he had some advice. He told her to
read the Book of Mormon. She read and read. And after a few days she said
"there is nothing about smoking in here" he told her "keep
reading" so she read and read some more. A few days later she said the
same thing "there is nothing about smoking in here" he told her
"keep reading" so she read and read some more. Then she finished the
book
She came back three or four days later. She said, “I’ve read
the entire book. I didn’t see tobacco anywhere; I didn’t see smoking anywhere.
But,” she said, “there has come into my heart as a result of reading that book
some influence, some power, that has taken from me the desire to smoke, and it
is wonderful.”18
After reading these and much more, I decided I would try to
read the entire Book of Mormon in one week. I started last Sunday and read 76
pages a day. Well any of you who have served missions know there isn’t much
leisure time, so I skipped morning exercise and stayed up late. I read during
lunch and dinner and any activity that I felt I could skip (like basketball
night)
I didn’t finish it. I
still have about 80 pages left.
But something has come into my heart. I wonderful peaceful
feeling. I read amazing stories and amazing testimonies. After reading through
a prophets whole life and seeing all his miracles and trials and miracles I was
humbled. The spirit I felt this week was so strong!
I know the Book of Mormon is true. There has entered into my
heart an undeniable feeling about it. Reading it this fast convinced me of
Joseph Smiths divine call as a prophet. There is no way someone as young and uneducated
as him, could have written a book so complex and uplifting and amazing.
If any of you are up for it I issue the same challenge to
you. It may take a week of no TV or no video games. Some later nights and
earlier mornings. But I promise after doing so that there will be a sweet
spirit in your heart and a great calm in your life!
I love you all!
