Week 10

December 18, 2016

Hello everyone!

It has been a while and A LOT has happened. 'Ill just start but summing up my last few days at the MTC.

Holy cow did they fly by. My teachers took the time to get to know us more and we shared pictures of our families together. It was very hard to say good bye and sure emotional. I was very sad to go and miss them a lot. They have helped me learn and progress so so much at the MTC.

We had infield orientation on Thursday and it was so weird! I had to speak in English and it just didn't seem natural at all! but I did learn a lot and got me really excited to get to Korea. I really learned that on a mission and in life in general attitude is everything! If our attitude is good our life is good.

My last devotional was awesome!!!!!! The BYU mens choir came and performed. They were so good and super awesome!!! they sang some really good songs and a couple of the members were converts so they shared their story with us. It was great and I balled like a baby every time they sang about Christ. I love Him and know now more than ever that He loves us!

Well that's about is for my MTC. When we said goodbye all the younger people were crying and we had such an influence on them. I hope they all have great missions and continue to learn and grow. On Monday morning we left the MTC at 4;50 am and were off to Korea! The flight up to Seattle was awesome! My and Elder Hunsaker sat next to a man named Steve! he had a lot of stories and we talked the whole plane ride. Of course we talked about the gospel and it  was my first experience with a real person. It was amazing. We gave him a pamphlet and unfortunately we only had Korean Book of Mormons. So he said he would ask a friend that he knew for one. It was super cool!

Then the 12 hour flight to Korea was so fun! They fed us some great food and it was very fun. Me Sister Hansen, Elder Boren, and Hunsaker played trivia pretty much the entire trip. It was fun and of course I won! because I'm the greatest guesser ever! I also slept a lot. But we finally got to Korea!

I had to say goodbye to my best friend Elder Boren. I cried so hard and will miss him so much. We were best of friends and were super close and did everything together. But we went back to the mission home and on the way we did subway proselyting. It was super scary but super fun. We gave out 7 Book of Mormons and a bunch of pamphlets and pass along cards. It was a good experience and really fun.

Then that night and next day we just had some meetings about mission life and Korea and money and a bunch of boring stuff. Plus I had jet lag so I was so tired and have no idea what was going on. But I got my knew companion and we were off to our knew area. My companion is a native Korean and he is super awesome! And thank goodness he speaks English to me or else this would be way harder is name is RyuHo Goel and we are in the Boon Dang area (류호걸 분당)

We have two other Elders in our house Elder Perry and Young. They are both about a year in and are super fun and nice and friendly. We have good times laughing about a lot of dumb things.

Me and Elder Ryu are opening up a new area so we have no investigators. So for that past 5 days we have just been walking around for 5 hours and trying to find people. No luck but we both are new to this area so it is fun to explore. We have been having lots of meetings because we have two parties coming up and have to perform at them. We have been making skits and it is super super super fun!

One way we try to find people here is called sticker boarding. We have a huge sign with three questions : How do I find peace and happiness? Whats the purpose of life? And how can I find happiness in my family?
We ask people to stick a sticker on our board and when they do was talk to them a little about the answer to the question. The first night I could barely say will you stick a sticker? But the second night I could actually talk to people about their questions. The first person I talked to I gave him a Book of Mormon. It was a super cool experience and it is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo fun to do! i really have no clue but I enjoy it so much.

So the food. OH MY. I really had no clue food could taste so good. We have been eating out a lot and Elder Perry is a good cook so he makes stuff for us. We have had bogum bab, kimchi stew, curie, fried pork, some noodle thing that I have no clue what it is but its sooooo good! And then fish ice cream. holy moly is that ice cream good!. It is vanilla ice cream dipped in raspberry and covered in a ice cream cone and shaped like a fish. It is soooooo good!!!
The food is just so good and I'm going to get so fat so soon. Its a real problem. Plus everything is so cheap! like I got a full dinner I couldn't finish for 4 dollars. This place is great!

Anyways Korea is awesome, no crazy stories yet because I haven't been here long, but the elders have told me funny stories about drunk people, the subway and grandmas.I'im excited and ready to learn a lot!

I love and miss you a lot! But am so glad to be here. I know God loves us and I feel his help every single day. He is there and I love Him and know He loves us!

Love you all have a great week!
Elder Goon

p.s. I gave my first talk and people couldn't believe I have only been here 5 days. They said my Korean is amazing. I don't think so but it was just a testament to me of how much Heavenly Father is helping me learn Korean! I have progressed so far because of Him!
